Asked by: Lord Carlile of Berriew (Crossbench - Life peer)

Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what discussions they have had with Palestinian and Israeli officials to ensure a resumption of direct talks and their commitment to a two-state solution.

Answered by Baroness Anelay of St Johns

The UK's priority remains the achievement of a two-state solution. We continue to believe that the best way to achieve this is through negotiations and hope that it will be possible to resume direct talks soon. We have regular discussions with Palestinian and Israeli officials. At the current time we are urging the parties to avoid taking any steps which will make the resumption of meaningful talks more difficult.
