EU Exit Negotiations

"I am sure that millions of members of the public think that our Government are not being tough enough with the European Union, and that in these negotiations, we should say clearly that the EU is stopping the continued co-operation—[Interruption.]..."

EU Exit Negotiations

"The EU is stopping the co-operation, which has been very good, between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. That could continue, but the EU is stopping it. Is it not time that the Government said so?..."

EU Exit Negotiations

"I welcome the Secretary of State’s firm rebuttal of the ridiculous idea that Northern Ireland would be taken out of the rest of the United Kingdom and made to stay in a customs union. Does he also recognise that the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee recently met the head of customs …..."

Exiting the EU: Sectoral Analysis

"I am sure that the public will, on the whole, use common sense and agree that this timing is reasonable. May I ask the Minister to make it very clear that, whatever is in these documents that we will be sitting up all night to read when they are published, …..."

European Union (Withdrawal) Bill

"It is a pleasure to follow the hon. Member for Stone (Sir William Cash), who has spent more time scrutinising EU legislation and directives than all of us. I am pleased to have been a member of the European Scrutiny Committee for some years now, although we have often felt …..."

European Union (Withdrawal) Bill

"The right hon. Gentleman is right: money seems to be the crucial thing the EU is using in the negotiation. I hope our negotiators will stand up to that and stop allowing the media and others to make every little bit of negotiation into some kind of conflict, saying that …..."

Written Question
Immigration: EEA Nationals
Friday 17th March 2017

Asked by: Baroness Hoey (Non-affiliated - Life peer)

Question to the Department for Exiting the European Union :

To ask the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, whether negotiations to secure the rights of EU citizens resident in the UK after the UK leaves the EU will also include securing the rights of EEA citizens who reside in the UK.

Answered by David Jones

Reaching an early agreement to secure the status of EU, EEA and Swiss nationals in the UK is a top priority for the government. The only circumstance in which this would not be possible is if the status of UK nationals is not protected in return.

The government recognises and values the important contribution made by EU and other non-UK citizens who work, study and live in the UK.
