West Bridgford Local Government
The petition of residents of West Bridgford in the constituency of Rushcliffe,
Declares that there is a need for a new town council for West Bridgford; further declares that a new town council would have a positive impact on community cohesion throughout the area, which would enhance a sense of place, and support the local environment, its communities, and local distinctiveness.
The petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urge the Government to work with Rushcliffe Borough Council to create a new West Bridgford town council to support local residents.

Observations from the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government (Jim McMahon): The Government continue to value the role of town and parish councils in driving forward the priorities of their communities and delivering effective local services, and are committed to empowering communities to shape their local area. It is for local authorities to determine whether new parish or town councils are needed, and this is done through the community governance review process. Communities can petition their principal local authority to undertake a community governance review, which is the statutory process through which the authority may consider whether to establish a new parish or town council for an area.
Plans to establish town or parish councils through the separate community governance review process should show how these will contribute to local government reorganisation’s overall goal of creating simpler structures that deliver high-quality and sustainable public services to citizens.
