Wharfedale Hospital Ward 1 (Otley, West Yorkshire)
The Petition of residents of Leeds,
Declares that the Petitioners oppose the decision by Leeds University Teaching Hospitals Trust to close ward one at Wharfedale Hospital and oppose any further loss of services at the hospital.
The Petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urges the Government to encourage Leeds University Teaching Hospitals Trust and NHS Leeds to commit to Wharfedale Hospital’s future as a genuine community NHS hospital.
And the Petitioners remain, etc.—[Presented by Greg Mulholland, Official Report, 25 October 2011; Vol. 534, c. 287.]

Observations from the Secretary of State for Health, received 11 November 2011:
We are aware that as part of an internal change project known as “Managing for Success”, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has centralised provision of older people’s services at St James’s University Hospital. We understand that this change has involved the closure of ward one at Wharfedale Hospital. Provision of health care services, including those provided from Wharfedale Hospital, is a matter for the local NHS. As such, it would not be appropriate for Ministers to intervene or become involved. However, we are advised that the trust is committed to Wharfedale Hospital continuing to deliver safe, appropriate and sustainable care to patients.
