The Petition of the people of Croydon,
Declares that the Shirley Hills viewpoint is in sad disrepair.
The Petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urges the Government to encourage the London Borough of Croydon local council to return the Shirley Hills viewpoint to its former glory.
And the Petitioners remain, etc.—[Presented by Mr. Andrew Pelling, Official Report, 24 March 2010; Vol. 508, c. 348.]

Observations from the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport:
I agree that Addington Hills (also known as Shirley Hills) is an area of significant natural beauty, and local residents take great pride and pleasure in this important local landmark.
I understand that the local community feels the viewing platform has fallen into disrepair and wants to see it restored.
This petition touches on issues that fall within this Department’s portfolio, such as heritage and culture, but is really a matter for local government, who are best placed to judge the needs of the people they serve. Ministers should not interfere with democratic local decisions. This responsibility rests with the local council.
