SI explanatory text Part 1 of the National Security Act 2023 (c. 32) (“the Act”) makes provision for designated bodies (including offences in relation to such bodies). Section 33A(1) provides that the Secretary of State may, by regulations, designate a body. Section 33A(4) provides that such regulations may amend the Act so as to insert a Schedule listing the bodies designated under section 33A. Section 33A(6) provides that the Secretary of State may include alternative names in the designation of a body if the Secretary of State believes the body is, or has been, operating wholly or partly under more than one name.

SI explanatory text These Regulations amend the Welsh language text of section 69 of the Public Services Ombudsman (Wales) Act 2019 (Deddf Ombwdsmon Gwasanaethau Cyhoeddus (Cymru) 2019) (“the 2019 Act”) in consequence of the enactment of the National Security Act 2023 (c. 32) (“the 2023 Act”). These Regulations are further to the National Security Act 2023 (Consequential Amendments of Primary Legislation) Regulations 2023 (S.I. 2023/1386) which made other amendments of primary legislation, including of the English language text of section 69 of the 2019 Act (but not to the Welsh text).

SI explanatory text Regulation 2 brings into operation a code of practice about the video recording of interviews of persons detained under section 27 of the National Security Act 2023 (c. 32) (“the 2023 Act”) that are carried out in a police station by a constable (“the code of practice”). “Police station” includes any place that the Secretary of State has designated under paragraph 1(1) of Schedule 6 to the 2023 Act as a place where people may be detained under section 27 of that Act.
