SI explanatory text These Regulations correct errors in Schedule 2 to the Representation of the People (Postal and Proxy Voting etc.) (Amendment) Regulations 2023 (S.I. 2023/1147). These Regulations amend the transitional provisions in that Schedule to provide for additional modifications of the postal poll card and proxy postal poll card to be used for certain elections and referendums for which the notice of election or referendum is published on or after 31st January 2024 and for which the date of poll is on or before 1st May 2024. Additional modifications are also added for the equivalent petition notices to be used for certain recall petitions under the Recall of MPs Act 2015 (c. 25) within the same period. The modifications provide for the correct description of criminal offences under section 61(4) of the Representation of the People Act 1983 (c. 2) (and equivalent legislation) to be included on those poll cards and notices.

SI explanatory text The Elections Act 2022 (c. 37) amended the Representation of the People Act 1985 (“the 1985 Act”) (c. 50) to expand the franchise for parliamentary elections in respect of British citizens overseas, removing the 15 year limit on voting for British citizens overseas and allowing registration based on both previous registration and previous residence in the United Kingdom.

SI explanatory text These Regulations make provision related to the expansion of the franchise for parliamentary elections in respect of British citizens overseas by sections 1 to 1E of the Representation of the People Act 1985 (c. 50), as substituted by section 14 of the Elections Act 2022 (c. 37). These Regulations also make provision related to the change to be made to the franchise for local government electors in England by section 15 of the Elections Act 2022 (voting and candidacy rights of EU citizens) and provision related to absent voting arrangements at police and crime commissioner elections in Wales.

SI explanatory text These Regulations make amendments to subordinate legislation in consequence of provisions contained in the Elections Act 2022 (c. 37) (“the Act”). The amendments made by these Regulations complement provisions in the Act relating to the handling of postal voting documents by political campaigners (section 4); handing in postal voting documents (section 5); the requirements relating to secrecy (section 7); and the simple majority system to be used in elections for certain offices (section 13).

SI explanatory text These Regulations make provision related to the implementation of section 3 (restriction of period for which person can apply for a postal vote) and section 6 (limit on the number of electors for whom a proxy can vote) of the Elections Act 2022 (c. 37) (“EA 2022”), as well as amending provisions related to the processing of applications for electoral registration under section 10ZC of the Representation of the People Act 1983 (c. 2) (“the 1983 Act”).

SI explanatory text This Order prescribes versions of certain forms which are specified in Part 1 of Schedule 2 to the Recall of MPs Act 2015 (Recall Petition) Regulations 2016 (S.I. 2016/295) for use in relation to recall petitions. The versions partly in Welsh and English and the versions in Welsh may be used in place of those specified forms in relation to recall petitions held in Wales.
