Asylum: Deportation
Asked by: Diana Johnson (Labour - Kingston upon Hull North) Tuesday 23rd April 2024 Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office: To ask the Deputy Foreign Secretary, what criteria his Department uses to determine whether it can enter into discussions on establishing potential asylum partnerships akin to the UK-Rwanda Migration and Economic Development Partnership. Answered by Andrew Mitchell - Minister of State (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office) (Minister for Development) The UK is continuing to work with a range of international partners to tackle global illegal migration challenges. Our focus has been on passing the Safety of Rwanda Bill, which builds on the Illegal Migration Act, and putting plans in place to get flights off the ground as soon as possible to Rwanda. A range of factors need to be taken into consideration for migration partnerships, including the human rights situation in the country. |

Asked by: Diana Johnson (Labour - Kingston upon Hull North) Wednesday 24th April 2024 Question to the Home Office: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to the Answer of 1 November 2022 to Question 72950 on Home Office: Vivastreet, how many times officials from her Department met representatives of Vivastreet (a) online and (b) in person in (i) 2023 and (ii) 2024. Answered by Chris Philp - Minister of State (Home Office) Home Office officials and law enforcement partners maintain a collaborative working relationship with many online companies, including adult service websites, to identify and put in place initiatives to reduce harms on their sites.
Since 2023, Home Office officials have met with representatives of Vivastreet online, on the following occasions during each calendar year:
We committed to working with adult service websites to explore a set of voluntary principles to counter exploitation on their sites, in the Violence Against Woman and Girls Strategy published in July 2021. The principles will encourage adult service websites to take reasonable and practical steps to prevent modern slavery and exploitation on their platforms and work collaboratively with law enforcement.

Answered by Michael Tomlinson - Minister of State (Minister for Illegal Migration) The number of people who can be relocated under the arrangement is uncapped and the Government of Rwanda have identified a range of accommodation sites to support individuals under the MEDP. These include reception accommodation in addition to the existing Hope Hostel, and a range of sites for longer term accommodation purposes. |

Answered by Andrew Murrison - Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Ministry of Defence) The reassessment began on 26 March 2024 and will take approximately twelve weeks to complete. Some complex cases might extend beyond the 12 weeks.
I will update the House once the review is completed, but my immediate priority is processing the cases as swiftly and diligently as possible and ensuring that the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy scheme criteria is consistently applied to all applications being reassessed. |
