The Northern Powerhouse is a long term plan to enable the north to reach its potential as a driving force in the UK economy, closing the gap between north and south. It will reinforce the links between our northern cities to make them collectively stronger, providing them with modern transport connections, supporting science, innovation, universities and creative clusters and by giving them the local power and control needed to support growth. The Government will also empower the towns and counties of the north to build on the economic strengths outside cities.
