UK Aid provided £3.24 million to UNICEF in 2018/19 and £4.00 million in 2019/20 to treat malnutrition in under-fives and provide access to safe hygiene and sanitation services in Eritrea. The majority of these funds are for the procurement of nutrition supplies and vaccines, with none of the funding allocated to the Government of Eritrea. UNICEF works with the Eritrean Ministry of Health and at all levels of the local community to build the capacity of the health service in Eritrea and encourage a long-term, sustainable response to undernutrition.

We continue to support UNICEF Eritrea in 2020/21. We are deeply concerned about the worsening humanitarian situation in Eritrea and will continue to monitor needs.
