The UK condemns the ongoing violence in Sudan, including over recent days in Darfur. Continuing reports of atrocities against civilians there bear all the hallmarks of ethnic cleansing. The UK calls upon both warring parties to uphold the commitments they made in the 11 May Jeddah Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan, and we urge the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces to control their fighters in Darfur and put an end to the atrocities being committed. The UK has called on both sides to de-escalate, refrain from ethnically-targeted violence, and focus on negotiating an end to this conflict.
