(asked on 5th February 2018) - View Source

Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what is (1) the tightest radius of curvature of the line, (2) the design speed, and (3) the maximum gradient, of the HS2 tracks at Wendover Dean viaduct; whether they are aware of other places in Europe that such a combination has been constructed on a high speed line; and if so, where.

The Wendover Dean Viaduct will be 500m long and will carry the HS2 railway over low lying land through Buckinghamshire as part of Phase One of the project. The radius of curvature of the line will be straight, with a design speed of 360kph and a maximum gradient of 0.395%.

There are several European examples of viaducts with similar parameters such as the Vicoin viaduct in France.
