Question to the Department for Transport:
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is their policy on cyclists cycling on footpaths.
Cycling on the footway is an offence under Section 72 of the Highways Act 1835 (as amended). Police Officers can issue a fixed penalty notice of £50 or prosecute, with a fine of up to £500. The enforcement of cycling offences is an operational matter for individual chief officers of police.
