The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) assesses that it is highly likely that North Korean actors known as the Lazarus Group were behind the WannaCry ransomware campaign in May 2017. The NCSC was instrumental in the US’s attribution. The investigation is ongoing and the National Crime Agency and NCSC are working with international law enforcement and industry partners to pursue the individuals responsible and protect victims.
