Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:
To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the remarks by Lord Young of Cookham on 23 November, what criteria are used to allocate the £2.5 billion available for flood defence schemes.
Funding is allocated to projects on the basis of the economic benefits the scheme could achieve in terms of the flood damages it would avoid, including damage to businesses, and the number of homes that would be better protected from flooding or coastal erosion.
