Transport for the North (TfN) are leading the development of options for Northern Powerhouse Rail in collaboration with the Department for Transport. The ambition is to dramatically improve journey times and frequencies between the major cities of the North; identified as Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle and Hull.

The option development includes assessment of the benefits of serving other economic centres, such as Bradford either directly or by released capacity.

TfN are currently reviewing proposals for the potential route options, their capabilities, and their costs and benefits for both the economy and passengers.
