Question to the Home Office:

To ask Her Majesty's Government, further to the reply by Baroness Williams of Trafford on 3 April (HL Deb, col 165), what is their definition of "indefinite" as applied to the term "indefinite detention".

It is not possible to detain people for an indefinite – or unrestricted – period.


In order for detention to be lawful there must be a realistic prospect of the individual’s removal within a reasonable timescale.
