Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the findings and recommendations of the Nicaragua Inquiry, published by the All Party Parliamentary Groups on International Law, Justice and Accountability, on International Freedom of Religion or Belief, and on Central America, in April; and which of the report’s recommendations they plan to implement.
I welcome the scrutiny of Parliamentary colleagues and would like to extend my thanks to all those who were involved in producing the Nicaragua Inquiry report. Officials have considered the recommendations in detail. The UK shares the widespread international concern about the ongoing unacceptable deterioration of human rights in Nicaragua. We continue to raise our concerns with Nicaraguan Government representatives both in Managua, and in multilateral fora. This includes our statement on 10 September 2024, during the Interactive Dialogue on the Report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on Nicaragua. We will continue to draw on the full range of diplomatic and development tools available to us to promote and protect human rights in Nicaragua.
