Following the Raising Participation Age legislation introduced in 2013-14 in England, young people are now required to stay in education or training until at least their 18th birthday.

The attached table shows the latest official participation figures for 16 and 17 year olds who are not in full-time education in England. Many 16 and 17 year olds are enrolled in other forms of education that are not classified as full-time. The number of 16 and 17 year olds who are not in education or training is also included and this shows those not in any education and training (those not in full or part-time education, on an apprenticeship or in employer-funded training).
