The Government intends to publish the final version of the statutory guidance and the Government response to the consultation on the draft guidance shortly. The statutory guidance will be published in advance of section 66 of the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 being commenced so that interested parties are aware of the contents of the final version of the statutory guidance prior to commencement. We intend to commence section 66 and the other remaining provisions of the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 in Spring 2022. The final version of the statutory guidance will cover section 47 of the 2019 Act which introduced new defences for the possession in private of Sikh kirpans and to allow the ceremonial gifting of Sikh kirpans.
