Backed by the Government’s funding commitment for the National Health Service - £33.9 billion a year more by 2023-24 - a new strategy has been developed to take the health system forward: the NHS Long Term Plan.

In the NHS Long Term Plan, the NHS has committed to meeting the Government’s financial test that the NHS will deliver overall financial balance in every year, and that all NHS organisations will be in balance by 2023-24.

A new financial framework that is better able to support and encourage the health system to develop in a more sustainable way with a rebalancing of its finances forms part of this plan.
