Since March 16 2020, Prisoner Escort and Custody Services have transported 11,305 detained persons to prisons following a Virtual Remand hearing at a police station in England or Wales. During that time, less than 3% (316) of these persons were not transported to prison on the same day as their hearing. In such instances efforts are made to ensure that defendants are moved to prison as promptly as possible.
