Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what proportion of new recruits to the (a) Royal Navy, (b) Army and (c) RAF had prior experience as an armed forces cadet in (i) 2010, (ii) 2015 and (iii) 2019.

  1. Figures are single Service estimates and have not been verified by Defence Statistics.

  1. Figures relate to UK Regular Armed Forces only.

  1. Army figures are for Officers only and are not available for Recruiting Year 2010-11. Naval Service and RAF figures include both Officers and Other Ranks.

  1. Naval Service (Royal Navy and Royal Marines) and Army figures relate to Recruiting Years i.e. 2010 equates to the period 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011 and so on. Figures for the Royal Air Force (RAF) relate to calendar year.

  1. The recording of prior experience in the Cadets is not mandatory and, therefore, figures may not capture all those who have previously engaged with a Cadet organisation.

  1. Figures are rounded to the nearest one per cent.
