Government statistics on local authority income and expenditure here (Table RO5) show that the income from planning fees consistently falls short of the cost of processing planning applications in England. To reduce this shortfall, it is our intention, as announced earlier this year, to consult on proposals to increase planning fees so that they cover a greater proportion of the cost of processing planning applications.
