The government has been carefully considering the potential issuance of a UK sovereign green bond and will keep this under review. In considering new policy, the government engages with a range of stakeholders, including foreign governments, in order to be fully informed of different viewpoints.

The government published its Green Finance Strategy last year, which includes the ambition to align private sector financial flows with clean, environmentally sustainable and resilient growth, and strengthen the competitiveness of the UK financial sector. The government continues to support the financial services sector and firms in their capability, competitiveness and the transition to net zero, including through the recently launched Green Finance Education Charter and work with the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures.
