Core skills training provided to Border Force officers who exercise customs controls includes awareness training on the controls that govern the movement of live animals into the UK.

If Border Force detects dogs being brought into the UK illegally the case will be referred to the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) and local authorities who lead on enforcement activity. Border Force does not hold information on the number of detections of dogs brought into the UK illegally.
