NHS Digital publishes data on the nationality of staff working in the National Health Service in England. Nationality is self-reported within the NHS human resources and payroll system, the electronic staff record.

At the end of June 2016, 21,826 nurses and health visitors working in the NHS, Hospital and Community Health Services identified themselves as non-United Kingdom, European Union nationals. At the end of September 2016 the figure was 22,227.

The September data, published in December, is the most recent data available.
