Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what steps the Government is taking to reduce the cost of social care for elderly people.
Social care is a devolved matter. In England in 2015/16, 872,540 people already received long term support from their local authority to help meet the cost of their care and a further 245,255 received short term support. In addition, we remain committed to introducing a cap on care costs and extension of means tested support, which will be implemented from April 2020.
