The UK supports the right of the Falkland Islanders to develop their natural resources for their own economic benefit and I have made this clear to my Argentine counterparts. I welcome the UK-Argentine Joint Statement, agreed during my visit to Argentina in September, in which Argentina agreed that appropriate measures would be taken to remove all obstacles limiting the economic growth and sustainable development of the Falkland Islands, including through the development of its oil and gas industry.
