Question to the Department for Education:

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, with reference to the annual report of Ofcom for 2015-6, how many of the 2,000 providers who received a welfare requirements notice between 2014 and 2016 have received a subsequent inspection; and what the ratings were for those providers.

Ofsted is the non-Ministerial Government Department responsible for the regulation of childcare providers in England. Ofsted is responsible for notifying providers of action needed to address failings identified in inspections and for taking the necessary follow-up action with those providers to ensure compliance with its notices. This is a matter for Her Majesty's Chief Inspector, Sir Michael Wilshaw. I have asked him to write to the Hon. Member and a copy of his reply will be placed in the libraries of the House.
