Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, pursuant to the Answer of 30 June 2015 to Question 3944, how many people were convicted in each magistrates' court in (a) Lancashire, (b) Greater Manchester, (c) Merseyside, (d) Cheshire and (e) Cumbria for carrying out tooth whitening illegally under section 38 of the Dentists Act 1984 in 2014.

The number of offenders found guilty of carrying out tooth whitening treatment illegally in the requested areas of the North West of England in 2014 can be viewed in the table below.

(1) Offence prosecuted under Section 38 of the Dentists Act 1984

(2) The figures given in the table relate to persons for whom these offences were the principal offences for which they were dealt with. When a defendant has been found guilty of two or more offences it is the offence for which the heaviest penalty is imposed. Where the same disposal is imposed for two or more offences, the offence selected is the offence for which the statutory maximum penalty is the most severe.
