The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England.

The CQC has provided the following response:

Between 1 January 2015 and 7 November 2016, 312 care homes inspected by the CQC were found in breach of Regulation 14 (meeting nutritional and hydration needs) of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. The CQC has advised that these figures do not include care homes that are part of National Health Service trusts.
