Question to the Department for Work and Pensions:
To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what steps he is taking to tackle delays in carrying out work capability assessments for people with a learning disability.
Centre for Health and Disability Assessments (CHDA), the provider responsible for carrying out Work Capability Assessments, are recruiting more healthcare professionals with detailed knowledge of specific health conditions such as learning difficulties. This will allow people to be assessed more quickly and reduce waiting times.
In addition, CHDA are focussed on enhancing the customer experience through the establishment of a Customer Representative Group that comprises of over twenty national disability organisations including those representing people with learning difficulties.
