General Practitioners: Medical Examinations

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what estimate he has made of the potential annual cost to the NHS of GPs being able to access CT scans, endoscopies and other internal examinations without a specialist referral.

These issues are being examined by the independent Cancer Taskforce. The Taskforce expects to publish its report this summer.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has published a costing tool alongside its updated guidance on suspected cancer that National Health Service commissioners can use to estimate the resource impact of implementation of its guidance locally.
