Prisoners: Females

Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what assessment he has made of the reasons for the increase in the number of female prisoners in June 2017.
This question was answered on 11th July 2017
The latest snapshot of the prison population as at 30 June, 2017, shows that there were 4,007 female prisoners, which is an increase of 36 from 2 June, 2017. From an analytical perspective, these increases are small, of less than 1%. It is too early to say what, if anything, is causing this increase.
