Councils and water companies have to produce two plans to help mitigate surface water flood risk and the Government expects them to produce these in collaboration. All Lead Local Flood Authorities must have a local flood risk plan in place, which we understand they all do. Under the Environment Act 2021 there is a new duty on water companies to produce comprehensive Drainage and Sewerage Management Plans. The first plans are expected in spring 2023.

Drainage and Sewerage Management Plans are not being produced uniquely to tackle surface water flood risk but will help with the issue.
