Trading Standards services are provided by local authorities, who operate independently from central government and are responsible for their own funding decisions. BEIS funds National Trading Standards (NTS) and Trading Standards Scotland (TSS) to prioritise and coordinate national and regional consumer enforcement in England, Wales and Scotland respectively. The Government is considering options to ensure that our system of consumer protection provides a robust response to both local and national threats following the Modernising Consumer Markets Green Paper in 2018.
