DCMS monitors proposals by local authorities for any changes to their library service provision and our estimate of static library closures, from May 2010 to the end of December 2014, based on consulting a number of sources, is around 93. This means that the number of static libraries has fallen from slightly over 3,000 to just over 2,900. The DCMS does not collect information on the number of volunteer-run libraries.
