The National Health Service budget will increase by £33.9 billion in cash terms, the equivalent of £20.5 billion in real terms, by 2023/24, and funding for primary and community services will be at least £4.5 billion more, per year, in real terms by 2023/24, ensuring investment will grow faster than the rising NHS budget.

Future funding decisions of the social care system beyond 2019/20 will be taken at the Spending Review later this year. However, we recognise that NHS and social care provision are inextricably linked. This Government has been clear that we will not allow the pressure from the social care system on the NHS to increase further.

That is why we have already provided local authorities with an additional £240 million this financial year 2018/19 and £240 million next year 2019/20 for adult social care. We will also provide a further £410 million in 2019/20 which local authorities can use to improve social care for older people, people with disabilities, and children.
