Schools and Academies should apply the basic rules of procurement whenever they spend public money. Compliance with EU procurement directives is not a new requirement for schools.

The Department has developed an eLearning tool – Buyways – that is available free of charge to all schools and raises awareness of the EU procurement regulations, as well as highlighting procurement best practice to support schools. This information is published online at: www.buyways.co.uk/

The Department has also highlighted the impending changes to the regulations at education trade association events and at conferences for the Association of School and College Leaders, National Association of School Business Management and The Academies Show. We will continue to do this at every opportunity.

We encourage schools to use procurement routes which are already EU compliant. Information may be found in our procurement guidance online at:

www.buyways.co.uk/ and at: www.gov.uk/government/publications/academies-procurement-resource-buying-for-your-academy
