Question to the Department for Work and Pensions:

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what the average time has been that employment and support allowance applicants waited for a medical assessment by a doctor since the implementation of that allowance.

For completed initial assessments for new claims to ESA for the period from October 2008 to December 2013 the median time taken from the issue of the ESA50 questionnaire to the claimant and the assessment date is 68 days.

Medical assessments are not solely carried out by doctors but by a range of health care professionals.
