The setting of European Union maximum limits for inorganic arsenic in rice and rice products is currently under discussion.

These limits will be directly applicable to all member states and are expected to come into force from mid-2015.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is working hard in Europe on behalf of the United Kingdom to ensure that the agreed limits are effective, proportionate and enforceable. The FSA supports more stringent limits for infants and young children to protect this vulnerable group.
