Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what recent steps he has taken to increase public awareness of bone marrow donation.

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) responsible for the supply of blood, organs, tissues and stem cells and manages the British Bone Marrow Registry (BBMR) and the NHS Cord Blood Bank. NHS BT and provides specialist services related to the provision of stem cells which can turn into blood cells for the treatment of blood cancers. NHSBT recruits stem cell donors to the BBMR exclusively from the pool of active blood donors (aged 17 years and above), and undertakes awareness raising activity.
