We recognise the importance of the heritage of the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) and its biodiversity as one of the last undisturbed ecosystems in the world. Although the British Indian Ocean Territory Administration does mint commemorative coins, it does not have plans to mint one of the new £1 coins for BIOT.
