Information held centrally by the Ministry of Justice on cracked trial hearings does not include details regarding the occupation of absent witnesses. It is not possible to separately identify trials which crack due to police officers failing to attend court as witnesses. On the occasions when non-attendance of a police officer is the cause, we would expect the prosecutor to raise the matter with the Police force in question. Issues with police witness non-attendance should be discussed by the relevant Local Criminal Justice Board as part of their performance discussions.
