During normal working hours staff must not consume alcohol on departmental premises. However, there is no prohibition of alcohol and occasionally Ministers and the Permanent Secretary host events for staff in recognition of particular achievements. Alcohol may be provided at such events and will normally be paid for by the relevant Minister or the Permanent Secretary.
