Neither the Secretary of State or I have not sought specific legal advice on the recent research carried out by Facebook. In the first instance, I believe it is a matter for the Information Commissioner's Office to determine whether UK data protection laws have been breached.

Neither have we made any estimate on the number of UK citizens that may have been subject to the research recently published by Facebook, nor had discussions with Facebook or the US administration about this. I have received a briefing paper from Facebook regarding this research, ahead of giving evidence to the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee inquiry on social media data.
