Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what estimate he has made of the number of coal freight journeys made through South Yorkshire; on which routes those freight journeys travelled; and how many of those journeys were made on the South Yorkshire Joint Railway line in each of the last ten years.

The Department does not have details of coal freight journeys in South Yorkshire but overall coal freight has declined from 2.05bn tonne km moved in 2013/14 Q1 to 0.12bn tonne km in 2019/20 Q1 as our actions to reduce carbon emissions take effect.
