Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if his Department will undertake a review of the categories of conditions eligible for medical exemption certificates for NHS prescriptions to ensure that there is provision for mental health conditions.

The Department has no current plans to amend the list of medical conditions that provide exemption from prescription charges, as extensive arrangements are in place to ensure that people can access affordable prescriptions. The Government is considering the recommendations from the ‘Modernising the Mental Health Act: Increasing choice, reducing compulsion’ report, published on 6 December 2018.
