I have not had any discussions with the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport on supporting the Nigerian Government to reduce the spread of false information on social media. In October, I discussed the issue with Lai Mohammed, Nigerian Minister for Information and Culture, setting out the steps the British government was taking to regulate use of social media for party political purposes and encouraged steps to tackle misinformation online. The BBC World Service in Nigeria, funded by the British Government, has broadcast a report on Africa Eye called "Like. Share. Kill", which documents how Nigerian police say false information on Facebook is killing people.
